![]() ![]() Almost nobody does this.ĭepending on how severe the blemishes are, you can usually get a good price on it, especially if the seller wants it gone for a more desirable machine. ![]() ![]() They also need a little maintenance a lot of the time - mainly dusting and thermal paste. The short version is you need to replace or reconfigure the LCD assembly (2011/12 has a different WiFi configuration and the card is no longer is part of the display), speakers (2011/12 use differently placed ones), the RAM isn't usable (13/16) and the hard drive cable should be replaced (precautionary if you have a SATA II drive, but these also die for no reason a lot). A lot of current production drives are Fixed SATA III. In addition to being marginally better at best, you are stuck with SATA II (3Gb/s). I’ve discussed this swap before in this answer: Does logic board A1278 of MBP Unibody 2012 compatible with MBP 2009?. As a baseline, find out how much a blemished 2011/12 goes for as a working average. I would look at how much a complete 2011/12 (and a genuine charger if you’re buying it on eBay) costs compared to putting a 2010 motherboard in your 2009, since you'll be in the same position when the C2D gets dropped in a lot of applications, you can’t easily find a SATA II compatible SSD or Sierra support starts fading away. The 2010 is *better*, but isn’t much better then the 2009. ![]()
